Rosatom delivered a record volume of calcium injection wire to the market in 2024

In 2024, Rosatom's Fuel Division achieved record production and sales volumes of calcium injection wire, which is widely used in the ferrous metallurgy to improve the quality of steel. The products are manufactured by the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (ChMZ JSC, Glazov, Udmurt Republic), the branch center of metallurgy of Rosatom. The supplier is Rosatom Metal Tech LLC (an integrator company in the field of Metallurgy). Both companies are part of Rosatom's Fuel Division (TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom).

This year, 6,000 tons of calcium injection wire were supplied to Russian ferrous metallurgy enterprises (an increase of 11% year–on-year), which is a record figure in the entire history of supplies of this product since its commissioning at the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant. The increase in supplies is due to global technological trends in the ferrous metallurgy – silicocalcium powder wires are being replaced with more efficient wires with electrolytic calcium filler.

"Rosatom Metal Tech is constantly working on customization of product designs and improvement of its application technology to increase the efficiency of steel processing in accordance with customer requirements. Such a sales service model provides an important competitive advantage both in the domestic and international markets of calcium injection wire," said Andrey Andrianov, Director General of Rosatom Metal Tech LLC.

The supply of new calcium products, such as high-quality ferrotitanium powder and injection wire based on it, also increased (year-on-year supply growth was 50%). These products are used for processing liquid steel and microalloying critical steels, such as sheet metal or rolled steel. A special feature of these materials is the low content of impurities, including carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. The quality of new products manufactured by ChMZ JSC ensures high consumer properties of steel products, which makes them in high demand in the Russian and foreign markets.

"This year, the calcium production of the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant celebrated its 75th anniversary. During this time, the company has accumulated tremendous experience and competencies that allow it to create world-class products and meet the growing needs of the domestic industry. We have provided a decent foundation for the production of alloying materials for Russian steel manufacturers by increasing the production capacity of calcium and other types of injection wires. Our novelty, the ferrotitane wire, has already been highly appreciated by metallurgists, as evidenced by the increase in orders," said Sergey Chineykin, General Director of ChMZ JSC.

The Russian industry faces the goal of ensuring technological sovereignty and the transition to the latest technologies in the shortest possible time. The state and large domestic companies are directing resources to accelerate the development of the domestic research, infrastructure, scientific and technological base. The introduction of innovations and new high-tech equipment allows Rosatom and its enterprises to occupy new niches in the market, increasing the competitiveness of the nuclear industry and the Russian industry as a whole.

The Fuel Division of the Rosatom State Corporation (Rosatom's TVEL Fuel Company) includes enterprises for the manufacture of nuclear fuel, conversion and enrichment of uranium, production of gas centrifuges, as well as research and development organizations. As the sole supplier of nuclear fuel to Russian nuclear power plants, TVEL provides fuel to a total of 70 power reactors in 15 countries, research reactors in nine countries around the world, as well as transport reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world is powered by TVEL fuel.

Rosatom's Fuel Division is the world's largest manufacturer of enriched uranium, as well as the leader of the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in the fields of chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, as well as decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Rosatom's industry integrators for additive technologies and energy storage systems have been created within the Fuel Division. http://www.tvel.ru

Rosatom Metallurgical Technologies LLC is a divisional integrator of the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in the Metallurgy direction. The tasks of developing the metallurgical business of the Fuel Company include, in particular, expanding the customer base in Russia and abroad, developing production facilities, and creating new alliances and partnerships. Enterprises specializing in the manufacture of products made of refractory and light metals, as well as alloys based on them, are the technological partners of Rosatom Metallurgical Technologies LLC. The integrator consolidates the competencies of TVEL JSC enterprises in the field of metallurgy: ChMZ JSC, MSZ JSC, NCCP PJSC, Elemash Magnet LLC, and NPO Centrotech LLC. The scientific potential, technological competencies, and qualified personnel of enterprises make it possible to carry out work on the launch of mass production. https://rusmetaltech.tvel.ru/
