Rosatom metallurgists presented a full line-up of domestic surgical instruments for traumatology and orthopedics for the first time

As part of the fifth Eurasian Orthopedic Forum held in Moscow, Rosatom Metal Tech LLC (an integrator company of Rosatom's Fuel Division in the Metallurgy area) presented an innovative line-up of surgical instruments for traumatology and orthopedics. It was the first time the company demonstrated its potential customers not only individual tools, but a complete product line-up for the Russian market.

The key advantages of the products are high manufacturing accuracy, which ensures perfect coupling with implants, ergonomic design, which significantly reduces the burden on the surgeon during operations, as well as the use of wear-resistant materials - stainless steel and special titanium alloys produced by the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (an enterprise of the Rosatom Fuel Division in Glazov, Republic of Udmurtia). The entire production cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to the production of finished products, is fully localized in Russia.

The cooperation of nuclear industry enterprises has allowed to master the full production cycle of such medical device

s in Russia for the first time. The annual production volume of the Rosatom Implantat LLC plant (a subsidiary of Rosatom Metal Tech LLC) will exceed 300 ready-made sets of tools after commissioning. "Contrary to the traditional status of medicine as a non-political sphere, the current geopolitical situation has led to limited access to these technologies. The gap between the previous level of provision and today's offerings is obvious, and this creates an urgent need for domestic high-tech solutions. That is why the development of own production of medical products for traumatology and orthopedics is not just a matter of import substitution, but an urgent need to preserve the quality of medical care in the country," said Andrey Andrianov, Director General of Rosatom Metal Tech LLC.

"Creation of such a facility is of strategic importance for the biosafety of the country. It is such large high-tech companies as Rosatom that have the necessary resources and competencies to provide medical institutions with high-quality tools in the required volumes. This will make it possible to avoid situations where patients are forced to wait for surgery due to lack of necessary equipment," said Vadim Dubrov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Traumatology, Orthopedics and Disaster Medicine Department, Faculty of Fundamental Medicine, Medical Scientific and Educational Center, Lomonosov Moscow State University.

To successfully introduce new tools into clinical practice, Rosatom Metal Tech LLC plans to organize a large-scale surgical training program. A network of specialized training centers will be created where doctors will be able to master working with tools in conditions as close as possible to those in the real operating room. This approach guarantees safety and effectiveness of using new products in medical practice. This is in line with Rosatom's best practices for developing new products, when not only promising developments are brought to market, but also a full-fledged ecosystem is being formed, from providing raw materials to training qualified personnel.
